At nearly a week into this creative challenge- visiting my studio everyday in June- I am feeling it settle down into something I’m now actively thinking about, beyond the physical challenge of it. The last 24 hours for me have been a total indulgence of my creative self. Yesterday, I went to a private view at centre space gallery, ‘seeing differently’ is a group show by Jessie Woodward, George Henry Rowe and Emma Anne that presents their unique approaches to abstraction to question how abstract painting is created, presented and understood.
It’s a colourful and painterly exhibition. It was also really lovely to be in centre space, which is a hidden gem of a gallery tucked down an alleyway of corn street and is always worth popping by to see what’s on.
After the pv I went for dinner with friend Han Redden, we have been friends since our eldest daughter’s were babies having met at a playgroup. We quickly realised we had more than feeding routines and lack of sleep in common. Han is an amazing interior designer and creative soul and is always championing me to make work. Needless to say our dinner left me feeling motivated and loved … and very full/ content. I would highly recommend Nutmeg for a bite to eat.
This morning I woke to a very quiet house as my husband has taken our three kids camping for the weekend. My first job was to start prepping for the bs4 arts trail which is next weekend. I am opening the garden studio and so it’s in need of a tidy up. I also managed to work on a few larger engravings.
This evening I took the free time opportunity to walk over to BV. I was in a good headspace as I have already been engraving today. I returned to the black and white painting from a few days ago and worked over it, at the point I left it it was in an ok shape. Walking home I was musing on how to give more narrative to the paintings. I feel they need more soul. That’s what I will ponder for the rest of the evening.
