Setting out my intention for the May Writing Challenge 2026

It is May and I've decided time for a challenge. I enjoy working within a set of perimeters that a challenge can bring, things like the 100 day project come to mind. Setting yourself a challenge can test and push you to discover new things by way of process and I feel like my work is in a place where it needs to be challenged and new muscles flexed. I would like to stretch and practice my writing skills. Words, writing and thought have always been a big part of my studio work but something I haven’t actively sort to share, it normally comes up as a need to write a statement for something. In May I plan to write something everyday and upload it to my blog. I always intended this to be a space for testing new ideas and enhancing my practice. It became too precious and therefore I lost the ability to share, the need to be perfect of course killed any creative spark or intension. This challenge will hopefully bring a lightness back to my writing. Importantly, it can be a receptive space for a few unfinished and hashed out pieces I have scattered across my computer and notebooks, this feels like a spring clean for my musings. These are not meant to be edited, polished pieces of prose. They are ideas I hope to explore during the month of May 2026, please forgive spelling and punctuation. This is also a cry against AI, as tempting as it is, I will not be using AI to help edit this project, these words and thoughts are entirely and untidily my own and completely human.
